Parliament to Probe 60m dollars Grant for Stadium Construction.

The parliamentary committee on education has summoned the ministry of finance and the Ministry of Education and Sports to account for the missing  60 million dollars grant which Uganda obtained from the government of China to construct two sports stadiums of Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium and Buhinga stadium in Fort Portal.

Recently the deputy speaker of parliament Anita Among tasked the committee of education to inquire into a grant which Uganda obtained from the people’s republic of China to construct two stadia namely;  Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal and Akii- bus Olympic Stadium in Lira district after their constructions failed to kick-off.

The committee chaired by the Bunyaruguru county MP has Twesigye the Bunyaruguru county summoned user agencies to account.

It’s alleged that 60m US dollars were obtained as a grant in 2019 to construct the two stadiums but the whereabouts of this money remains unknown as construction remains pending two years later.

The committee is working under strict terms of reference, mainly to establish the delayed utilization of the funds.

The furious MPs have vowed to leave no stone unturned in this matter and expose all those culpable. They expressed concerns that many government grants expire and are taken back by donor funders due to the laziness of public servants who sleep on jobs.

The committee of education is also interested in establishing the accountability of 2.35bn shillings which the government had released for the construction of the Akii-Bua Olympic stadium.
