While addressing the annual general assembly of the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association, the speaker of parliament Rebecca Kadaga reechoed the demand to fast rack the domestic relations bill to ensure cohabiting is recognized as a marriage because its real and a number of women including MPs have not gained from their sweats on properties they put up together with their partners as many walk out with nothing at a time of divorce.
Kadaga urged fellow female MPs to assign a team among themselves to monitor funds allocated to women development in ministries to ensure they reach the average woman on the grassroot and advocate for an increased budget of women empowerment fund in the next financial year.
The leader of opposition Betty Aol Ochan who also graced the function called upon female legislators to forget about their political affiliations when it comes to gender issues and unite to advocate for better well-being of a woman.
Pamela Kamugo the Budaka district woman MP was voted unopposed as a new chairperson of the Uganda Women Parliamentary Association to replace Monica Amodingi the Kumi district woman MP.
