The minister came under fire last week as her relatives were arrested by security in possession of relief iron sheets meant to benefit the vulnerable people of Karamoja

Legislators representing the Karamoja region led by their chairperson Remegio Achia asked the minister of Karamoja affairs Mary Goretti Kitutu to step aside and allow investigations into the alleged diversion of iron sheets meant to benefit the people of Karamoja.

The Karamoja parliamentary group reconvened and took a decision to initiate a censure motion against the embattled minister Kitutu, saying they have lost patience waiting for her voluntary resignation.

Moving under article 118 of the constitution, seven members of the Karamoja Parliamentary group have signed a notice of motion copied to the speaker of parliament and clerk to parliament to censure the minister for Karamoja affairs on the grounds of Abuse of office and mismanagement of public resources.

MPs claim they can’t let the minister’s relatives rustle relief items that were meant to benefit reformed cattle rustlers in the ongoing disarmament exercise.

They said that the items to non-intended beneficiaries deprive the intended beneficiaries of the Karamoja sub-region.

The fire-spitting legislators believe their motion will attract the required signatures from legislators across the board since corruption affects everyone.

It’s important to note that the recent minister to be censured by parliament Persis Namuganza has remained in the office one month later as the president remains silent on the parliament resolution.
