Karamoja Iron Sheet Scandal Takes a Twist, MPs Petition President Museveni As DPP Closes 17 Files.

The Karamoja Parliamentary Group wants the president to take appropriate action against implicated Ministers.

The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) closed 17 files on the theft and diversion of Iron Sheets meant for the Karamoja Region. Speaking to the Press on Saturday, the DPP noted that they did not find sufficient evidence to proceed with 17 case files of suspects. This means that Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and Speaker of Parliament Anita Among who had been implicated, will not be prosecuted.

In this regard, legislators from the Karamoja subregion have come out to condemn the action taken by the DPP to close files in the face of glaring evidence.
Led by the Chairperson Karamoja Parliamentary Group Lemegio Achia, they believe the closure of 17 files is not the end of their quest for justice and appealed to the appointing authority who is the President to take appropriate action against the implicated Ministers.

They also condemned a failure by the minister for Karamoja affairs to step aside and vowed never to work with the two Ministers of Karamoja whom they believe are the source of the mess.

They also expressed their displeasure to the minister for refusing to return the 6000 iron sheets allegedly she took for herself.

Karamoja MPs also appealed to the court of public opinion to do the needful saying the DPP did not do a better job to scrutinize evidence that has been flowing ever since investigations started.

They also condemned a failure by the minister for Karamoja affairs to step aside and vowed never to work with the two Ministers of Karamoja whom they believe are the source of the mess.

They now want iron sheets that have been recovered from Ministers to be taken evacuated to Karamoja for distribution before they can land into another set of wrong hands.

MPs have called for an overhaul in the office of the Prime minister and proposed reforms to ensure management controls and

countability.
