The Director of Public Prosecution has discontinued Terrorism proceedings against Australian based Cardiologist Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi and two others.
This follows an amended Charge Sheet
tendered before the International Crimes Division court by the Asst. DPP John Baptist Asiimwe.
Dr. Kiyingi, together with a one Muzafar Kaule and Sheikh Swaliden Baligeya are temporarily dropped from the charge sheet until they are arrested.
However a one Joseph Masereka and Adam Dean Luwooza have been added to the amended charge sheet, which now brings the total of accused persons to 38 including former ADF Leader Jamil Mukulu.
Presiding Judge Eve Luswata has now adjourned the matter to 15th/August 2018 with orders that the DPP also meets his other deadline of availing his intended evidence to the Defense Team.
Dr. Kiyingi had been indicted with jailed Jamil Mukulu and many others who have been produced again in court today, but sent back on remand at Luzira prison as the DPP continues to put his house in order.
Mukulu and 37 others are facing charges of terrorism , murder, crimes against humanity, aiding and abetting terrorism , attempted murder and aggravated robbery.
They are linked to the famous murder of college students at Kichwamba Technical institute in 1998 , the murder of Muslim Clerics across the Country between 2015 -2016, and the murder of 2 police officers at Bugiri Police Station in Busoga.
The case is still at Pre-trial Stage in which the Director of Public Prosecution Mike Chibita is supposed to disclose all his intended evidence and exbhits to the Lawyers defending Jamil Mukulu and his co-accused.
Court has also heard that Lawyers representing victims are not yet facilitated by the Judiciary to be able to visit and interview the victims, which would be a vital step for this case to kick -off.
