The minister of agriculture, animal industry and fisheries, Vincent Bamulangaki Ssempijja has issued a directive to all agriculture extension officers in the country to implement the four acre plan as earlier suggested by the president.
While touring farmers in Busia District yesterday, Ssempijja said the directive takes immediate effect, adding that this will enable farmers use their land maximally. He said he is also implementing the presidents suggestion that, if Uganda`s dream is to attain the middle income status by 2020, every farmer should adopt the four acre plan.
He adds that the ministry will use this to evaluate the performance of the extension workers, and this directive has already been sent to Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) and all District Chairmen.
Recently President Museveni suggested that, serious farmer should plant at least one acre for coffee, one for banana, another one vegetables and may be another one for beans depending on the soils of the area, he warned farmers to desist from inter cropping, saying this method cannot earn them good money to get out of poverty.
