The Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago and his Cabinet have  today extended food relief to the most vulnerable in the city through the office of the Supreme Mufti at Kibuli.

“The safest way to deliver such items is through the religious leaders because they run charity schemes that cater for the vulnerable people including; widows, orphans, elderly, persons with disabilities among others who are in dire need right one but the religious institutions were closed” Lukwago noted

The Supreme Mufti Sheikh Siliman Kasule Ndirangwa welcomed the Lord Mayor and his Cabinet and he cherished their appropriate big-heartedness during this mystifying period and called on other well-wishers to learn from them.

It should be recalled that last week the KCCA Cabinet took a decision for a 10% financial virement from all Directorates to channel the same to the food relief programme to the vulnerable people in Kampala.

However, in an unexpected turn of events the Minister for Kampala suspended the Council sittings before the Council could ratify some of these resolutions to improve the economic welfare of the city dweller noting it was dangerous to converge people from different parts of Kampala in the wake of the covid-19 pandemic .

This has forced the Lord Mayor and his Cabinet to expend from their salaries to fulfill their promise.

Lukwago says in the course of the week, they will be moving to other religious institutions doing the same.

He assured the people of Kampala that incase the expected relief funding from the Ministry of Kampala comes through; they are going to employ the Local Council system through Local Councils I&II who will reach out to people door to door because they know these needy people in their communities.
