The venting committee of parliament chaired by the deputy speaker Anita Among has today vetted the newly appointed chairperson for
Uganda human rights commission Mariam Wangadya and the commissioners
of the commission.
Speaking to the media after the vetting process, Former CCEDU coordinator Crispin Kaheru who was also appointed has a commissioner to Uganda rights commission noted that he has been condemning human rights violations for all his life and that the chance he has got to be one of the commissioners at Uganda human
rights commission he is going to continue walking the talk and he is going to promote civic education on human rights violation during his
term as a commissioner.
However, the chairperson of the commission Mariam Wangadya appealed to parliament to force different government institutions to compensate people who have been awarded by different human rights tribunals for
violating their rights.
Wangadya noted that Uganda human rights commission has ordered many government organisations to pay those people who have been awarded by courts of law and different human rights tribunals but up to now many
of those institutions have failed to obey the orders of the tribunals to compensate people whose rights were violated.
Mariam Wangadya has also promised that if the committee approves her appointment has the chairperson of the commission, she will make sure that each and every human rights complaint will be investigated and the victims will receive redress.
The former minister for ethics and integrity Fr. Simon Lokodo one of the appointed commissioners to the commission noted that he is going to bring his experience from the ministry to ugada human rights commission since his work at the ministry looks the same at the
commission because all deal with the aspect of advocating for human rights.
The others commissioners vetted today include Shifra Lukwago and, Atuheire Jacklet.
