Govt Pledge Relief aid for West Budama Disaster Victims.

Julius Adiga

The Prime minister of Uganda Robinah Nabanja has committed on behalf of the government to extend immediate relief aid to the people of West Budama who have been ravaged by heavy hailstorms.

This followed an appeal by West Budama North East legislator Fox Odoi who petitioned parliament about the heavy downpour and strong winds that destroyed farms, homes, and schools in West Budama.

Nabbanja noted that the government had already received information on the disaster and the responsible ministry is ready to rescue the situation. She however urged MPs to write to the ministry of Relief and Disaster preparedness for a quick response instead of petitioning parliament.

She also advised Ugandans to plant more trees to avoid such avoidable calamities.

“There is one point I want to make Rt Hon speaker that as members of parliament we need to mobilize our communities to plant trees to act as windbreakers, this will save a lot” Prime minister Nabanja emphasized.

Disasters affected six sub-counties of sop sop, Ayan, Nabiwire ,kirewa and soni.  Hailstorms destroyed several farms, private houses, and institutional buildings, including a primary school called senda.
