Free Rotary Health Camp Targets 90,000 Vulnerable Ugandans

The rotary club of lugogo has launched the annual family health days, where it provides free health care services to vulnerable communities in Uganda, with this year’s camp targeting 90,000 people.

Officiating at the launch of the camp slated for 20th October in Nakasongola district, the junior health minister in charge of general duties, Hon. Sara Opendi acknowledges the fact that the country has gaps in the health sector that need to be closed if its citizens are to have a healthier life to serve the nation.

Opendi also notes that, the health of Ugandans can only be improved if government is helped by partners like rotary. “We are doing all that we can to improve with health care system of the nation as witnessed in the president’s pledge to increase salaries of health workers.” Says Opendi.

She further notes that following the increase of salaries, government is to embark on a massive drive to equip all health centers with the necessary equipment so as to provide a conducive working environment for the health workers in the country.

Meanwhile, the rotary district 9211 governor together with the past district governor Stephen Mwanje reveal that over UGX.30M has been sank in this programme that seek to extend health services to vulnerable Ugandans.

Among the services to be offered include, cancer screening, dental services, family planning, maternal health services, child immunization and nutrition among others.

“The underlying objective of the rotary family health days program is to engage Rotarians and development partners in humanitarian service to the local communities by offering free, quality and professional health care,” says Mr. Stephen Mwanje. The board chair, Rotary family health days.

Many Ugandans cite inadequate medical facilities in their localities as a major hindrance to proper medical care.

The free family health days have been running since 2011 and have been copied by Nigeria, India, Indonesia, S.Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi among other countries.
