EALA Election Was A Sham -Agaba
The former candidate for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) in the recent elections conducted by parliament of Uganda Gilbert Agaba has announced intentions to drag Parliament of Uganda to court, seeking orders to quash the September 29 Elections which he claims was null and void.
Agaba who lost with 210 votes has highlighted grounds of his election petition on which he and four other EALA contestants are going to base to challenge validity of outcomes of the shambolic EALA Polls.
Mr. Gilbert Agaba who contested on the independent ticket in the recent EALA elections that were infested with drama and chaos, has described what happened on the fateful day of elections as sham. He claims there was foul play in the way the ballot paper was drafted in non alphabetical order to favor some candidates.
Still on the ballot paper, Agaba has highlighted issues of lack of serial numbers on ballot papers and also wondering why his name was fixed in the same box/low with another candidate Ategeka Moses. He argues that this was deliberately done to confuse his voters.
Agaba also contends that there was violation of voting procedures during EALA elections, saying there was no roll call of voters before voting. He also wonders why voting started before official campaigns ended.
Again on procedure, the aggrieved EALA contestants says voting took place without knowledge of candidates and they were not present to witness ballot boxes before cote casting started.
Agaba is also contesting the number of votes that were declared at the end of the day by the speaker Anita Among; wondering where the voter turn up was inflated to 495 yet 26 MPs were abroad at that time plus other 57 NUP members that boycotted the process.
Having lost with only 210 votes, Agaba says his votes were under-declared because he accumulated 229 votes according to what his team recorded at the tally center during vote counting. He is however accusing parliament for denying him declaration forms and voters register.
While addressing the press in Kampala today, Agaba has announced his intentions to file a joint election petition with other four former candidates in EALA race in the High court of Uganda and the East African Court of Justice seeking orders to quash the sham election.
He is currently with two law firms to have the petition lodged in court before Thursday of this week.
